Kay Gainacopulus is an American saxophonist, music educator, arranger and composer.

Gainacopulos graduated from Lawrence University, Peabody Conservatory and Indiana University, where he studied saxophone with Eugene Rousseau and clarinet lessons with Clark Brody, Ignatius Gennusa, Bernard Portnoy and Searl Pickett. He has taught at the College of St. Teresa, Whitman College, and St. Norbert College and is professor of clarinet and saxophone as well as director of the Music Merchandising Program at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

In addition, Gainacopulus was principal clarinetist of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra and two Army bands. As a composer, he became known primarily for editing classical works for saxophone orchestras.
